The Greens’ plan will address the cost of living, housing and climate crises. The Greens are the only ones who have the guts to make the big banks, gambling and gas corporations pay their fair share to fund the things we all need for a better life.

While the major parties work for the interests of their corporate donors, we work for you.

Our policy platform is bold, comprehensive and independently costed.

You can demand better by voting for someone who will fight for you and the things you believe in. 

Rent caps so you can afford a home and save for the future.

You deserve a home you can afford. But every year, more of your wages go straight into your landlord’s pockets.

In the last 5 years rents have gone up 2.5 times faster than wages.

The rental crisis is a political choice. Rents keeps rising because Labor and the Liberals give special treatment to wealthy investors, who in return fund them to stay in power.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Unlimited rent increases should be illegal. The Greens ended rental bidding and no grounds evictions – we can make rent controls a reality too.

We will cap rent increases so you can afford your home, and even save for the future.

The Greens plan:

  • Cap rent rises so they can’t go up faster than wages.
  • Close the loopholes to make renting secure and fair.
  • Crack down on dodgy agents and landlords with an independent regulator.
  • Enforce and increase the tax on empty homes to free up homes to rent and buy.

Make polluters pay; stop Labor’s new coal and gas

Energy bills and fuel prices are through the roof – but the major parties keep giving coal and gas corporations special treatment. 

We’re all paying for the consequences of climate change through higher insurance premiums, energy bills, fires and floods – but big polluters who caused the problem get off scot-free. 

Labor has taken millions in donations from the fossil fuel industry and then gives them special treatment – while your bills rise.

The Greens will make big polluters pay their fair share to bring down your energy bill, build more renewables and restore the damage they’ve done to nature and our communities.

The Greens plan:

  • Stop new coal and gas
  • Double coal and gas state royalties and end the millions in government handouts to fossil fuel giants.
  • Fund bushfire recovery, emergency services – CFA, and preparing Victoria for climate disasters.

Free & frequent public transport

Public transport should be free and frequent, especially in a cost of living crisis where fuel prices are through the roof. 

The Greens successfully pushed the government to make it free in April and May. But Labor put fares back up while people are still struggling. 

People are fed up with Labor’s short-term fixes when the cost of living is getting worse. With the Greens plan for free public transport, commuters would save over $220/month.

The Greens plan:

  • Make public transport permanently free.
  • Increase tram and train frequencies to every 10 minutes between 7am to 10pm, where possible with existing infrastructure.
  • Implement a new grid network for buses to make them easier to navigate and more frequent.
